Research Interests
Cerebral complications caused by liver disease, specifically hepatic encephalopathy, a major neuropsychiatric syndrome of liver failure associated with high rates of mortality and morbidity. 

Study of the pathophysiological role of ammonia, oxidative stress, and inflammation and its effects on the brain with particular focus on the astrocyte, a brain cell which plays a key role in the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy.

Development of new therapeutic strategies for patients with hepatic encephalopathy.
