| Editing and translation service |
The CRCHUM’s Office of Research Support (ORS) provides
editing services for English-language manuscripts and
English-to-French translation of certain types of documents (see
“services” below).
1. Services
a) Manuscript editing
- This service is limited to documents written in English.
- This service is limited to editing scholarly material (articles
for publication in scientific journals, chapters of scientific
books, and conference papers and posters) and funding
applications.
- The person requesting this service must be the first or
corresponding author for articles and papers and the principal
investigator for funding applications.
- Requests for editing are treated on a first-come-first-served
basis.
b) Translation
- This service is limited to translating English-language
documents into French.
- This service only covers the cost of translating the
following:
- Documents required by the CHUM’s Ethics Review Board (ERB)
for research involving human subjects (e.g., summary of
research protocol and consent form).
- Career plan summary required by the FRSQ (boursier FRSQ).
- For ERB documents, only those resulting from a project directly
funded by a funding agency, administered at the CRCHUM and for
which the person making the request is the principal investigator
are eligible for this service. Co-investigators can be eligible if
a portion of the grant is under his or her responsibility
(identified as such in the grant application).
- For illustrative purposes and without being exhaustive,
the following documents are not eligible for this service:
documents resulting from a project funded by a third party, be it a
private company, a government agency, a public or parapublic
organization, a non-governmental organization (NGO) or an
individual or organization with a research grant.
2. General considerations:
a) Eligible individuals
CRCHUM researchers and investigators as well as their graduate
students and postdoctoral fellows.
b) Costs
The costs for these services are covered by the CRCHUM for the
types of documents meeting the conditions indicated in
“Services” above. Requests for services not
covered above will be accepted but will be at the cost of the
person making the request. The responsibility of the ORS will be
limited to the following:
- Putting the person making the request in contact with one or
more suppliers. Upon request, acting as an intermediary between the
person making the request and the supplier (e.g., transmitting
documents, negotiating fees, and supplying the payer’s
coordinates to the supplier).
- In these cases, under no circumstances will the CRCHUM pay a
supplier’s invoice and then bill a third party. The person
making the request must pay the supplier’s invoice or provide
the coordinates of the person or organization who will do so.
3. Service requests
- All service requests must be made to the ORS, Francine
Cartier and not directly to a supplier. The ORS will contact
one of its suppliers and arrange to have the work done. Persons who
contact a supplier directly (i.e., without going through the ORS)
will be responsible for covering the costs of the services
performed.
4. Turnaround time
- The turnaround time for service requests is ten working days.
The ORS will accept requests with a shorter turnaround time but
will offer to no guarantee that the work will be accomplished
within the specified time frame.
Please note that all documents to be edited must be submitted to
us in Word format.
